Meet the Fellows: West Coast

We’re honored to introduce the Fellowship for Liberated Futures’ inaugural cohort. We are joined by 17 visionary Black leaders who are at the forefront of reimagining inequitable systems and creating sustainable, liberated futures for marginalized communities across the country and the world. 


Meet the Fellows on the West Coast:


Breonna McCree, CA

Transgender District


Breonna McCree is a potent advocate for social justice, boasting more than twenty years of committed experience in furthering the cause for the broader transgender community in the San Francisco Bay Area. Acknowledged as the prior Director of Community Engagement at the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health, University of California San Francisco, she spearheaded initiatives in transgender empowerment, behavioral interventions, and HIV prevention. McCree made substantial contributions to organizations such as Walden House Recovery Services, TARC, Public Health Institute, and UCSF.


Her steadfast commitment to transgender empowerment earned her recognition as a 2023 Grand Marshal by San Francisco Pride, supported by accolades from Mayor London Breed, Senator Scott Wiener, and the Bayard Rustin Coalition.


As Co-Executive Director of the Transgender District, McCree focuses on fostering collaboration, establishing impactful partnerships, and developing programs resonating with the diverse transgender community in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. Her goal is to economically empower and stabilize transgender individuals through ownership of businesses, homes, historic sites, and community space.



Jaelynn Scott, PNW

Lavender Rights Project, Transgender Cultural District


Jaelynn Scott, M.Div., is an award-winning advocate, organizer and spiritual leader. She serves as the Executive Director of the Lavender Rights Project. Lavender Rights Project is a Black trans advocacy and movement building organization based in Seattle, Washington. Jaelynn’s advocacy and consulting practice leads guidance, coaching and leadership development for faith/spirit rooted leaders, nonprofit and religious organizations and collectives working towards racial justice, LGBT inclusion and gender expansive organizing. Her framework and advocacy efforts blend intersectional organizing and bridging the divide between faith/spirituality and activism. Originally from Jackson, MS, she considers herself a lifelong Mississippian-in-exile. She brings Black queer and trans southern ways of knowing and being to her organizing work. Jaelynn is also an ordained Buddhist minister. Her leadership is deeply rooted in maternal care, mindfulness, and discernment of wisdom from her southern Christian sanctified upbringing. She lives in Tacoma, WA with her beloved partner and their two fur babies, Bodhi and Shabba. Jaelynn is the recipient of the 2021 Local Pride Hero from Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the 2023 Lottie Cross Community Service Award, 2023 Monica Roberts Advocacy Award, 2023 Monica Roberts Advocacy Award, and Flower Crown Project Fellow 2024-2026.



Kelly Baker, AZ

BLM Phoenix


Kel Baker is a proud black, queer, non-binary and disabled person that spends their free time with their cats and crocheting. They feel like the climate justice space has allowed for them to be their authentic self while working toward a liberated future. Kel is extremely grateful to be apart of this fellowship and will bring encouragement, care and heart to the co created safe space.








Tianna Renee Arredondo, WA


Tianna Renee Arredondo (they/them) is a environmental justice consultant, researcher, mind-body life coach, facilitator and trans-disciplinary artist. the projects and commitments they maintain meet at the intersections of climate change, psycho-somatic education, black femme informatics, and narrative strategy. their main vocational focus have been fossil fuel divestment and transformative leadership. they support social change makers, communities and organizations to create curriculums, databases, metrics, organizational change plans, programs, art projects and campaign strategies that focus on resource redistribution and relational healing.
