What Keeps You Connected to the Work of Sustainable Leadership?
Reflections from the co-hosts of the Fellowship for Liberated Futures
Leading justice work asks a lot of us. For Black women and femmes on the frontlines, the pressure to keep going, to stay strong and hold everyone else up, can quietly pull us away from the reasons we started.
So we asked the people who hold this fellowship a simple question: What keeps you connected to the work of sustainable leadership? Their answers are a reminder that rest, care, and wellbeing aren’t extras. They are how this work lasts.
Ashley Bernal
Director, ProInspire, and Program Director, Fellowship for Liberated Futures
Ashley helps shape the day-to-day spaces where our fellows rest, reconnect, and dream.
Bianca Anderson
Co-CEO, ProInspire
Bianca has helped guide FFLF from its earliest conversations, holding a vision of the fellowship as a sacred space for exploration, rest, and healing.

Dr. Chera Reid
Co-visionary and Co-host, Fellowship for Liberated Futures
Chera dreamed FFLF into being alongside our partners. As a mother and a yogi, she carries a deep understanding of what it takes to care for the body and spirit over a lifetime of this work.
A promise we keep together
Across these four reflections runs a shared truth: sustainable leadership isn’t something we earn after the work is done. It’s a practice, and a promise we make to each other and to ourselves. At FFLF, that promise looks like retreats, in-person and virtual community, and protected space to dream, rest, and renew, so leaders can keep showing up for the long haul without losing themselves.
Now we want to hear from you. What keeps you connected to this work? Share your reflection with us on Instagram at @liberatedfuture, or reach out and say hello.
